Only 25% of UTME Candidates Secured Admission in 2014

According to data obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), only about 400,000 candidates from a total of 1.6 million that sat for the 2014 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Nigeria were able to secure admission.
This was disclosed by the resource person to the Global Organisation on Open Education Resources and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Abel Cain, at a workshop for staff and management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Lagos.
He said the data showed that just 25 per cent of candidates that wrote the examination organized by the Joint and Matriculation Board (JAMB) finally got admitted to higher institutions.

Cain suggested that for Nigeria to overcome the challenge of limited access, she must support and empower the open and distance learning system.
